Cochrane Sinclair is pleased to welcome Josef Rosenthal to the firm as Senior Counsel in our Vancouver office.

Josef brings more than a decade of experience working on complex and sensitive matters involving Indigenous and constitutional law. Before joining Cochrane Sinclair, he served with the Federal Department of Justice, where his practice included Aboriginal rights and title, treaty rights, and claims before the Specific Claims Tribunal. In that role, he worked closely on matters requiring careful legal analysis and a deep understanding of the evolving legal landscape affecting Indigenous Nations and communities.
Throughout his career, Josef has appeared before the British Columbia Provincial Court, the British Columbia Supreme Court, the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Specific Claims Tribunal, and the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal. His broad litigation experience reflects both the depth and range of his practice across multiple levels of court and administrative decision-making bodies.

Josef’s extensive experience and thoughtful approach to complex legal issues will further strengthen the firm’s Indigenous Law practice and enhance its ability to support clients across a wide range of matters, including those involving constitutional questions and historical claims.
Josef earned both his Juris Doctor and Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Victoria.
Outside of his legal practice, Josef enjoys spending time with his family and friends, reading, and playing soccer.
