Cochrane Sinclair is pleased to share that Max Faille and Robert Freedman have been recognized in the 2026 Doyle’s Guide rankings of leading First Nations lawyers in Canada.
The rankings identify lawyers practising in Aboriginal, First Nations and Indigenous Peoples law across the Canadian legal market. They are determined by fellow Canadian First Nations lawyers and compiled through an independent, peer-review methodology. Rankings cannot be purchased.
Max Faille
Max is the Managing Partner of Cochrane Sinclair’s Vancouver office, where he practises Indigenous law and constitutional litigation.
He represents Indigenous governments, organizations, entrepreneurs and individuals in matters involving Aboriginal and treaty rights, self-government and governance, First Nation taxation, and Indigenous economic development.
Throughout his career, Max has appeared before superior courts and Courts of Appeal across Canada, as well as the Supreme Court of Canada. He has also supported Indigenous Nations through significant negotiations, including serving as legal advisor to Whitecap Dakota Nation during the negotiation of the Whitecap Dakota Self-Government Treaty.
Robert Freedman
Robert is a Partner in Cochrane Sinclair’s Vancouver office with more than three decades of experience in Indigenous, environmental and regulatory law.
His practice includes treaty negotiations, environmental agreements, consultation processes and other complex matters affecting Indigenous Nations and communities. His work is grounded in understanding his clients’ priorities and helping them navigate legal and regulatory frameworks while protecting and advancing their rights and interests.
