We are accepting applications for a Summer Student to join our Vancouver office.

Cochrane Sinclair LLP is Canada’s largest First Nation-led law firm, with offices in Winnipeg, Vancouver, Swan Lake First Nation and Musqueam First Nation. We build on the legacies of Harold (Sonny) Cochrane, K.C., and the late Honourable Murray Sinclair, whose work has made a lasting contribution to Indigenous and Canadian law.

Our lawyers advise and represent clients across a range of practice areas, including:

  • Aboriginal and treaty rights
  • Self-government and treaty negotiations
  • Indigenous economic development and taxation
  • Class actions and litigation
  • Employment and labour law
  • Corporate and commercial law
  • Public and constitutional law

The Summer student experience

Our Summer Student can expect to gain skills by conducting legal research and case analysis, drafting legal documents, supporting negotiations and dispute-resolution matters, and contributing to work for clients across Canada. The student will also receive ongoing guidance and mentorship from members of our Vancouver team.

“Our Summer Student program gives students the opportunity to contribute to meaningful work while learning directly from lawyers across different areas of practice. We want students to feel supported, included and able to develop a practical understanding of the work we do and the clients we serve.”
— Max Faille (Managing Partner, Vancouver)

For Reilly Geroux-Dunne, her experience with the firm provided a foundation for the next stage of her legal career. After completing her articles with Cochrane Sinclair, she was called to the bar and transitioned into her current role as an Associate in our Vancouver office.

“My experience as a student gave me the opportunity to learn from lawyers with a wide range of experience and contribute to meaningful files. That support and practical exposure helped prepare me for the transition into practice and my current role as an Associate.”
— Reilly Geroux-Dunne (Lawyer)

We also recognize that learning within a law firm comes from building relationships with colleagues. Our team activities, including kayaking, pitch and putt, beach gatherings and other events, give students opportunities to connect with the people they work alongside outside of their regular responsibilities.
