We are proud to announce that Harold (Sonny) Cochrane, K.C. (Co-Managing Partner), has been selected as a recipient of the King Charles III Coronation Medal.
Sonny’s selection was communicated by the Office of the National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations. The recognition reflects his longstanding contributions to First Nations, Indigenous communities, and the legal profession.
The King Charles III Coronation Medal commemorates the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III as King of Canada. It recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to Canada or to a particular province, territory, region, or community.
For Kent Brown, Cochrane Sinclair’s Chief Operating and Human Resources Officer and a fellow member of Fisher River Cree Nation, the recognition reflects the broader impact of Sonny’s work.

A Cree lawyer who grew up in Fisher River Cree Nation, Sonny is a founding and Co-Managing Partner of Cochrane Sinclair LLP. He has dedicated his legal career to advancing the priorities and interests of First Nations.
Throughout his career, he has advised and represented First Nations across Western Canada in matters involving self-government and jurisdiction, child welfare, specific claims, treaties, business development, and Canada’s constitutional framework as it relates to Indigenous Peoples.
Shawn Scarcello (Co-Managing Partner), reflected on Sonny’s leadership and the influence it has had on the firm.

Sonny is also the first Cree lawyer to be appointed King’s Counsel in Manitoba. His previous recognitions include the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal for his advocacy and contributions toward reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.
Tiffany Sjoblom, a paralegal who has worked alongside Sonny since joining the firm in 2017, also spoke about the consistency of his leadership over the years.
