Alyssa Cloutier is a Partner in the Vancouver office of Cochrane Sinclair. Her practice focuses on Indigenous Law, Constitutional Law, and complex litigation matters, including Class Actions, with a strong emphasis on high-stakes advocacy and claims addressing historical and ongoing systemic failures. Alyssa has extensive courtroom advocacy experience, having appeared before all levels of court in Manitoba, the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada. Her litigation practice includes significant experience in class actions, and matters engaging Aboriginal and Treaty rights, where she regularly advances complex legal and evidentiary issues on behalf of Indigenous clients. In addition to her litigation work, Alyssa frequently advises Indigenous governments, organizations, and individuals on a broad range of legal issues, including governance, jurisdictional and constitutional matters, specific claims against the Crown, and the interpretation and enforcement of Aboriginal and Treaty rights. She is also experienced in representing Indigenous clients in proceedings involving Crown conduct and systemic claims. Alyssa has developed particular expertise in Child Abuse Registry hearings, acting on behalf of Indigenous Child and Family Services agencies, and brings a trauma-informed approach to advocacy in sensitive and complex matters. Outside of practice, Alyssa enjoys travelling to new countries, paddleboarding with her dogs, and staying active through sports and running.
